August 18: day to protect the energy sector

Against the central government's policy of privatising public sector undertakings, a protest will be held nationwide on August 18, observed as a day to protect the energy sector, under the leadership of the joint struggle committee of all trade unions except the BMS.

The central government has decided to privatise all the vital sectors, including railways, power and coal. BPCL, which includes the Cochin Refinery in Kerala, has also been put up for sale. It is the national trade unions that have called for the nationwide struggle against the central government's policy of selling off the public sector against the background of Covid.

On August 18 workers will protest at their homes and workplaces, following Covid protocol.
