CITU state secretariat condoles the passing of Com. Kodiyeri Balakrishnan

The CITU state secretariat records its condolences on the passing of Com. Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, former CPI(M) state secretary and Polit Bureau member.

The comrade, who began his political work through the student movement, worked to organise Kerala's working class and for the unity of working-class movements. He left his mark in various roles: as a member of the Legislative Assembly, as the state's Home Minister and as state secretary. Com. Kodiyeri, who led the SFI as its state secretary during the Emergency, was jailed for 16 months as a MISA detainee in the same period. The gentle face of Left politics in Kerala, Com. Kodiyeri was a leader of enduring strength for the working class of Kerala and India.

The state secretariat pays homage to the memory of the comrade, who made unparalleled contributions to the movement and to the people.
