Compensation for employment guarantee workers if wages are delayed

Compensation for employment guarantee workers if wages are delayed

Local Self-Government Minister Com. M B Rajesh said rules will be framed to pay compensation to employment guarantee workers if their wages are delayed.

Wages must be paid within 15 days of the work being completed. If they are delayed, from the sixteenth day the worker must be paid 0.05 per cent of the wages due for each day. If a further 15 days pass after that, the worker will get another 0.05 per cent of the compensation for each day in the same way. The compensation will be paid from the state employment guarantee fund, and recovered from the salaries of the officials responsible for the delay.

The decision is part of the government's interventions to ensure that workers are paid on time and accurately. Kerala is at the forefront in the country in ensuring wages are paid most promptly, the minister said in a statement.
