Elamaram Kareem MP writes to the Prime Minister against BJP governments' moves to abolish labour laws
Elamaram Kareem MP has written to the Prime Minister against the policy of BJP governments that are abolishing labour laws. The letter seeks central intervention against the attempts by the governments of Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Tripura to bring in anti-worker laws under cover of the lockdown. Behind the scenes, moves are under way to override all labour laws to make up for the losses caused by the spread of Covid and the lockdown, raising working hours to 12 and taking away all the rights and protections workers now enjoy. It is states ruled by the BJP and its allies, such as Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Tripura, that are considering this. The inhuman stand of these governments, which are considering issuing ordinances to do away with all existing labour laws for about three years, deserves protest. The letter asks the Prime Minister to intervene and to stop the state governments from going ahead with such measures.
