Make the CITU protest day against railway privatisation a success
The CITU state secretariat appeals to make the protest on July 16 against railway privatisation a success. The central government has decided to run private trains on 109 railway routes and has issued a notification inviting expressions of interest from private companies. The notification says the opportunity will be given not only to domestic firms but to foreign companies too. Railway privatisation is an issue that affects the whole country. The Indian Railways carries not only crores of ordinary people but also essential goods such as food grains, coal and fertilisers across the country. If private companies come in, the cost of all this will rise. The private trains will run on the infrastructure of the Indian Railways, built with public money.
This step is part of the central government's policy of privatising all strategic public sectors. It is serious treason against the country. In protest against this policy, the CITU has decided to raise a nationwide protest on July 16. In the state that day, protests will be organised in front of all railway stations and in public places. Given Covid, the protest will fully follow the health department's protocol.
