May Day: Com. Elamaram Kareem MP
May Day rallies will be organised at 300 centres in the state to observe May 1 as a day of unity of working-class struggles and to take the LIC protection pledge.
The broadly united struggles of the working class are going to grow stronger still in India. In the two-day national strike, according to government figures in India, 43% of workers went on strike. This year's May Day comes at a time when the BJP government is stepping up public sector privatisation and asset sales, and, in the name of ease of doing business, trying to abolish the rights of workers who organise against it to bargain collectively and to organise freely.
If the propaganda of communal forces and the communal riots meant to break up working-class unity are not resisted and defeated, class struggles will weaken. The days ahead are days in which farmers, agricultural workers and workers will join hands to oppose and defeat the fascist tendencies the BJP is promoting.
This May Day, along with the pledge to strengthen class unity and struggle, an LIC protection pledge will be taken as part of the May Day rallies against the LIC privatisation measures the BJP government has announced, which prepare the ground for the biggest financial fraud in the country. State office-bearers will take part in May Day rallies at the following centres: Kozhikode - Com. Elamaram Kareem MP, Com. T P Ramakrishnan; Kottayam - Com.
