Muthoot strike to be intensified
The CITU state secretariat meeting decided to intensify the strike Muthoot employees have been waging for the last 59 days.
On March 4, demonstrations will be held in front of all Muthoot branches under the leadership of the strike support committee. On March 9, the committee will lead a march to the residence of the Muthoot MD in Ernakulam.
The employees are striking against the unjust dismissal of 164 employees, including the union secretary. Even after the High Court stepped in and appealed for a settlement, the management will not budge. The management is obstinate that it will not recognise a trade union.
The High Court has directed another round of conciliation talks before a mediator on March 3. Ignoring all threats, the employees stand firm in the strike.
It has been decided to hold solidarity protests across the state under the leadership of the strike support committee formed in Ernakulam. Various service organisations and trade unions are helping the striking employees. No strike in Kerala in recent times has won so much support.
The employees' strike to protect the right to form a trade union will continue until victory.
The CITU appealed to all workers in the state to support the Muthoot employees' strike.
President Anathalavattam Anandan presided over the secretariat meeting at the CITU Centre in Thiruvananthapuram. General secretary Elamaram Kareem took part.
