This is a victory of women's strength too
"We will bury these black laws and bring a new revolution here" was the pledge women comrades of the CITU took at the Singhu border while taking part in the nationwide agitation called on January 1, 2021, as part of the year-long struggles demanding the withdrawal of the central government's black laws.
Thousands of women have taken part in the farmers' agitation from the beginning. Besides taking part in the farmers' struggle, women activists led by the CITU have so far organised many huge rallies to the struggle centres and elsewhere. Farmers and workers, especially women, carried the struggle forward in the face of continuous attempts at repression and violence, including by the state, and in spite of hostile weather.
Yesterday, when the central government admitted defeat and bowed before the farmers and workers, this victory gave more energy to the struggles to come.
